Tokina AF Zoom 19-35mm f/3.5-4.5D

Introduction

The AF193 was Tokina`s consumer, ultra wide angle lens.This is the low budget photographer`s ultra wide angle zoom, that said, this lens performs pretty good, it outperforms it`s price with ease. The AF193 is constructed with high refraction, low dispersion (HLD) glass and multicoated lens elements produced by Hoya Corporation .It also features Tokina`s excellent rubber grip for the zoom and focus ring.

Positives

• Sharp. A sharp lens with good contrast.
• Price. This lens was bought for $ 125 USD new
• Excellent focus/zoom grip, I have always liked the rubber grip Tokina used in the past.
• Good manual focus feel.

Drawbacks

• Focus ring turns when autofocus.
• The wide end is actually 20mm and not 19mm as the lens says.

Verdict

All in all a very capable lens, with decent sharpness and good contrast and color. If you are on a small budget i can recommend this lens. On a FF DLSR or a film body, this zoom range is a must for skateboard/snowboard photographers.
